Bear Roberts

Summary

Danny Moore had it all figured out. At 20, she was thriving at Cornell with amazing friends, solid grades, and a boyfriend who checked all the boxes. Life was good-until it spectacularly wasn't. Because nothing says "plot twist" like walking in on your boyfriend... in bed with your mother. Yeah. Let that sink in. Suddenly single, seriously traumatized, and completely out of housing options, Danny finds herself living in a stranger's apartment. That stranger? Bear Roberts. A guy of very few words, very intense eyes, and a jawline that could cut glass. He barely speaks, grunts more than he talks-but he's also the hottest guy Danny's ever seen. Living with Bear is supposed to be temporary. Emotionally safe. Strictly platonic. But feelings, like ex-boyfriends and emotionally unhinged mothers, have a way of showing up when you least expect them...

Chapter One

Danny’s POV

I moan as the warm liquid runs down my throat.

My friend Stacey looks at me weirdly as I drink my coffee.

I am addicted to coffee.

I couldn’t live without coffee.

“Let’s head to class before you decide to make love to that cup,” Stacey says.

I huff and follow her out of Starbucks, across the road to the campus.

It’s my second year here at Cornell. I’m majoring in Marketing, because I’ve just always loved the idea of owning my own makeup store

With this degree, I’ll be able to know how I can sell to my customers and know what’s best to do in certain situations.

And I know that I sound like every girl in the world, but I’ve been dreaming of this since I was ten and watched my first Nikkie Tutorials video.

Stacey and I actually met in the class. She says she went into marketing so she could take over her dads' business.

It’s sound pretty alright.

He sells cars.

“Danny,” Stacey says, clicking her fingers in my face.

“What?” I murmur, turning in my seat towards her.

“How's your apartment going?” She asks, giggling.

I roll my eyes at her immatureness. I recently moved out of my mums' place and moved in with my boyfriend Jason.

We’ve been dating for three years this June. He’s been a little distant lately, but I might know why.

I think he’s going to propose.

I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but well-

My hopes are up.

“Good,” I answer. “He needs to fix his shower pipes though.”

“I bet you're getting all the sex you want,” Stacey huffs. “While I’m stuck on a three-month dry spell.”

I giggle, but inside I was feeling just like her.

Jason hasn’t touched me in weeks.

“I’ve told you; I could set you up with one of Jason’s friends,” I state.

“Those guys are dicks,” Stacey mutters.

“Fair,” I say.

“Plus, there’s no way I can take someone back to my parents place to have sex with them,” Stacey says. “That’s just embarrassing.”

“Am I late?”

I look up and see our other friend Olivia. Her hair was in a messy bun, and she was in sweatpants and a tank top.

So, what she sleeps in.

"Your good,” Stacey says. Olivia sits beside me and groans.

“My roommate is awful,” Olivia states. “She blares her green day albums all night and I can’t sleep.”

“Just try to find a new place,” I suggest. “There’s heaps on the bulletin board.”

“Have you seen the freaks on there?” Olivia hisses.

“It’s a room,” I state.

“Your just lucky, because you have a boyfriend,” Olivia mutters.

I guess I was.

I stumble into Jason and I’s apartment, my hands full of groceries. It was about 5pm at night, so I wasn’t expecting Jason to be home.

He has a tight schedule with his football scholarship.

As I pack the groceries away, I hear a creak, coming from the bedroom

Hmmm weird.

When the creaking continued, I stopped what I was doing and went towards the bedroom.

“Fuck Jason,” I hear someone moan.

I bust the door open and when I saw, what I saw, I wanted to vomit.

Sorry, I did vomit.

Jason stops what he’s doing and runs over to me. “Danny, baby, listen to me-”

“You're fucking my mother?!” I explode.

My mother, who just casually stays on the bed, sprawled out for her nakedness to see, shrugs. “She came onto me,” Jason says. “I didn’t know what to do.”

I laugh dryly. “Maybe not fuck her.”

“Your mums hot,” Jason says.

“I’m going to be sick,” I say.

“But I still love you,” Jason says. “We can still be together.”

I laugh again. “You think I still want to be with you, after I find you having sex with my mum.”

“Sweetie Jason is good for you,” my mum says, finally standing up.

Still naked by the way.

“Good enough for you to fuck him,” I say.

“Honey, it’s okay to share,” mum says.

“Both of you are sick,” I snap. “Just stay away from me.”

I storm out of the apartment and get into my car, driving to the first place I could think of.

Olivia’s apartment complex.

I bang on her door and her roommate Ying answers. “Is Olivia here?” I ask.

She nods and lets me in. I walk over to Olivia's bedroom and open the door.

She was there doing her homework.

When she looks up to see me, I break down.

She instantly gets up and comforts me. “What happened?” She murmurs, as I sob into her chest.

“Jason was cheating on me,” I cry.

“With whom?” Olivia growls.

“M-my-”

My stomach rolls and I go to the nearest trash can, throwing up in it.

“Who with, Danny?” Olivia asks softly, patting my back.

“My mother,” I croak.

Ying starts laughing. “Holy shit that would fucking suck.”

I sigh.

Thanks Ying
